Badges Motivation
Badges are a new way to motivate you during your gliding journey. No matter your skill level, earning the next cool badge nudges you to try other gliders, declare your first task or upload and analyze the last 10 minute flight.
You can read the full announcement here.
Start date
All valid flights done after the 11th of April 2023 earn badges. Earlier flights do not count to provide the same motivation for everyone to start earning badges. For badges that have been introduced later, only flights after the introduction date count towards the badge. On October 1st 2023, we introduced the following badges:
- Silver, Gold, Diamond
- Bring It Home
- Euclid
- Palm
- Yogi
- No Need To Circle
Valid
There are two requirements for a flight to qualify for badges:
- The flight must be valid. This means that there have not been any errors analyzing the flight. It is indicated by the left status circle on top of the flight page which must be green.
- The igc file must at least be hash valid. This means that the right circle must be either blue or green. Flights from XCSoar count towards badges.
If any of the status circles is red, the flight does not qualify for badges.
Pilot vs. Copilot
Most badges you can only earn if you upload the flight as pilot. However, there are some badges like the Consistency Badge, for which your flights as copilot also count. In this cases, it is explicitly stated, that flights as copilot also count.
Not another competition
While most competitions are geared towards professional pilots with good skills, badges aim to motivate you trying new things and become a better pilot along the way. This bridges the gap between the competition environment of the contests on WeGlide and just starting to learn gliding.
