Segment Introduction

WeGlide Segments are a new fun way to compare your perfomance to other pilots in your area. They are popular routes where pilots can compare their times. Every pilot gets scored automatically on all segments which they pass during their flights

Scoring

Each flight is automatically scored for all segments which are intersected. Segments do not have a direction. The gates are 30km wide (15km to each side). The difference between the start and the finish altitude is calculated into the final speed based on MacCready theory. If you fly faster, you get a smaller speed penalty if you finish lower. If the weather is very bad and you fly slowly, the time penalty for the same altitude will be higher.

The maximum allowed altitude difference between start and finish is 2000m. Also, the minimum speed which needs to be achieved is 40 km/h.

A detailed guide with lots of usefull advice to the segment overview page can be found here. The guide for the individual segment page can be found here

Index

All flights get scored with the newest index for the aircraft to allow to compare flights accross different years. As soon as a new index list is out, all points are recalculated.

Creation

The existing segments were created based on historic flights uplaoded to WeGlide. Specific algorithms optimized the exact positions of the gates to match as many flights as possible. If you think that we missplaced a segment or that we have missed a popular route, please write us.

Naming

We are looking for cool names for the different segments. Don't hesitate to share your naming suggestion. Funniest one wins!

Prizes

For some segments like this one, there exist small prizes from our sponsors that you can win if you score the most points in a season.

Integration

You can download the segments in different formats:

We are working on having a native integration into LXNAV and SeeYou devices.
